10 Most Expensive Players of IPL 2011

IPL 2011 auction was organized on 8 and 9 January at Bangalore for all 10 teams. In IPL 2011 auction, players received more prices than before and many new players are also promoted in IPL 4. Each team offered lot of money to players to insert best cricketing talent in their teams. For instance, KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) had attempted to reorganize team and Mumbai Indians tried to catch fresh players for supporting retained players in the team. Players described below are seemed to be the 10 most expensive in 2011 players’ auction.

10. Dale Steyn:
Dale Steyn got $1.3 million from the Deccan Chargers for his appearance in the team. He is famous as right arm fast bowler because he bowls at a speed of around 145–150 km/h. He was bid by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the former version of IPL and received $325,000. His fastest bowling speed (156.2 km/h) was recorded in match of Royal Challengers vs. Kolkata Knight Riders in 2010 IPL. In this game he gained three wickets in first two over and cut the Deccan to 14 for 3. Audience will have fun in the coming league by watching Dale’s bowling.

9. David Hussey:
The right handed batsman and right-arm offbreaks bowler of Australian cricket team is obtained by Kings XI Punjab by paying $1.4 million. He was contracted at $625,000 to the Kolkata Knight Riders in previous IPL. He played his first series by making 319 runs at a rate of 29.00. He became man of the match by scoring 38 runs (not out) on difficult pitch in opposition to Deccan Chargers.

8. Mahela Jayawardene:
Kochi, one of the two new leading teams in this League has assigned previous Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene by $1.5 million for upcoming Indian Premium League. He was the player of Kings XI Punjab in last IPL 3. He put proposal to play as an opener to Captain Kumar Sangakkara and captain agreed to him. As an opener he formed a very big score of 110 runs in 59 balls and gave the victory to his team in second last over and beat Kolkata Knight Riders. He was the 6th highest run maker in the tournament and 1st in the Punjab team. Mahela is also included in the celebrities of modern batsman.

7. Saurabh Tiwary:
In this year the former player of Mumbai Indians, Saurabh Tiwary is taken up by Royal Challengers Bangalore with $1.6 million away from his base price $100,000. He played for Mumbai in the IPL 2008 and remained as regular player of this team till IPL 2010. He was named as left-handed version of Mahendra Singh Dhoni due to his long hair that looked like Dhoni. Third IPL was proved successful for him; he scored 419 runs in 16 matches with an average of 29.92.

6. Yuvraj Singh:
For IPL 4 Yuvraj Singh is signed by Sahara Pune Warriors at a sum of $1.8 million. He is left-handed batsman and considered for his batting against fast bowling rather than spin bowling. He is also regarded as good fielder as he directly points out at the stumps. Yuvraj was idol player and captain in Kings XI Punjab in the first two seasons of IPL. But in 2010 as a captain he was replaced by Kumar Sangakkara. In 2009 IPL he had lifted hat-trick twice, one against Royal Challengers at Kingsmead ground in Durban where he hit 6 sixes and second against Deccan Chargers at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

5. Irfan Pathan:
Delhi based franchise Delhi Daredevils has bought Irfan Pathan as all-rounder player by giving $1.9 million for the forth IPL season. He is left handed batsman and bowler among the young players in Indian cricket team. He had played in Preity Zinta-owned King's XI Punjab in 2009 for a whopping $925,000. He played in all 14 games and made 196 runs at an average of 19.60 as well as caught 17 wickets. Irfan was one of the attraction points in last season as he used to take wickets frequently within whole series.

4. Rohit Sharma:
Mumbai Indians paid $2 million for Rohit Sharma to play in 2011 auction. He performed better in IPL but failed to sound in International game but it did not affect his selection in IPL auction against his batting ability. He is well known for his shots like malleable wrists, knack to find the gaps, and the extra half a second. In 2008 IPL, Deccan Chargers appointed Rohit Sharma by an amount of $750,000. He played as leading run scorer in first season and scored 404 runs at an average rate of 36.72. During 2009, he was posted as vice-captain of Deccan Chargers. In second edition he played very well and included in the 23 best players of event.

3. Yusuf Pathan:
Kolkata Knight Riders has selected all-rounder player, Yusuf Pathan for their team for IPL 2011 with amount of $2.1 million. He got more price as compared to former edition in which he was bought with $475,000 by the Rajasthan Royals. Pathan played first IPL season in 2008 in Rajasthan vs. Deccan Chargers. In this game he came into view as a successful player because he made the fastest fifty in 21 balls and became Man of the Match in the final. Overall he played 43 matches with total runs of 1011 in previous both the version of IPL (2009-2010).

2. Robin Uthappa:
This Indian cricketer is purchased by Sahara Pune Warriors for the upcoming Indian premium league at a cost of $2.1 million. He is a good strike batsman and opener known for his big shots. In the previous IPL in 2008, he played for Mumbai Indians with bid of $800,000. In 2009, he substituted with Zaheer Khan and joined Royal Challengers Bangalore. Robin had made second fastest fifty against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2010. In previous IPL matches Uthappa played blasted innings and had done great job for his team so people may again enjoy the blasting shots of Uthappa in this IPL 2011 if he countinues with past performance once again.

Gautam Gambhir, the left handed opening batsman of Indian cricket team has become the most expensive player in IPL 4. The base price of Gautam Gambhir was $200,000 and he was the first player to be sold in the players’ auction that fetches a record $2.4 million by Kolkata Knight Riders. He was the captain of Delhi Daredevils in previous season. He played 11 matches and missed three matches because of injury in IPL 3. He had made 534 runs at an average of 41.07 including 5 half centuries in total 14 IPL matches. His top score was 86 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Now only few days are left behind to see the Gambhir’s blazing batting.
